All-on-4 Dental Implants

Dentures and bridges used to be the only dental solutions available for replacing missing teeth. While they were fairly effective, they weren’t the most comfortable or stable. Fortunately, there is another option, with dental implants. And with the All-on-4 implant treatment, you can replace all of the teeth on the top or the bottom of your mouth with just four implants. Burch Dental offers this treatment in Rockford and Loves Park, IL to restore a functioning smile to patients with missing teeth.

Tooth loss is quite common among adults, especially as we age. Failing to have the teeth replaced can have consequences on the remaining teeth – they can shift in place and change your bite and the alignment of your jaw, and the missing tooth can cause bone recession. Dental implants are a good solution for one or more missing teeth.

What is a Dental Implant?

An implant is a small post made of titanium that is fitted inside your jawbone to integrate into the bone. Once it successfully fuses with the bone, it can act as the root part of the missing tooth. A crown or other dental prosthetic is then fixed on top of the implant to give you a natural-looking and functional restoration.

The All-on-4 procedure is remarkable because you do not need a dental implant for each and every missing tooth – just four implants, precisely placed on the top and/or bottom of your mouth, are enough to restore a full line of teeth.

Procedure

The All-on-4 implant treatment usually requires at least two appointments to complete. During the first appointment, your dentist will map out the angle and length of the implant and insert the implant according to those measurements. The tissue will be closed over the implants and left for four months to allow the implant to fust to the bone. A temporary set of teeth can be fitted during this time. At the end of this period, you will return to the dentist to have the permanent prosthetic teeth – whether they are fixed dentures or bridges – placed onto the implants. With proper care, the restoration should last a lifetime.
